Fabian Molina, the re-elected SP National Councillor from Zurich, has announced that he will not be running for the Federal Council. He shared the news on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, saying that he will continue to dedicate his full energy to his parliamentary work. Molina had previously expressed interest in the position after the resignation of Alain Berset. However, he stated that the SP Fraktion has the privilege of choosing from "numerous excellent candidates" for the Federal Council, and that he will not be running. The current candidates for the Berset succession are Beat Jans, Jon Pult, Matthias Aebischer, Daniel Jositsch, Roger Nordmann and Evi Allemann. The SP Co-Spitze, Cédric Wermuth and Mattea Meyer, have yet to declare their ambitions. Molina, 33, has been a National Councillor since March 2018 and was able to retain his seat in the 2019 and 2023 National Council elections.
