Fatal head-on collision on the A18 near Aesch BL

A 35-year-old woman was fatally injured in a head-on collision on the two-lane A18 highway near Aesch BL on Wednesday morning. The 24-year-old van driver who caused the accident was seriously injured.
The accident occurred shortly after 05:00 in the morning, according to the Basel police. For reasons still unknown, the van driver crashed into the crash barrier, whereupon the vehicle was thrown back onto the road. There it collided with the passenger car driving in the correct lane.
According to the press release, the woman driving the van was so seriously injured that she died at the scene of the accident. The seriously injured van driver had to be rescued from the vehicle by the fire department.
