Ukrainian refugees in Switzerland should take on more work. The Federal Council has instructed the Department of Justice and Police to prepare a consultation draft by February 2025 with amendments to the law that promote work integration.

This was decided by the Federal Council on the basis of the report by the Status S evaluation group, which it took note of on Friday. The group, led by former Aargau Cantonal Councillor Urs Hofmann, was set up by the then Minister of Justice Karin Keller-Sutter to quickly evaluate and process experiences with Status S.

Parliament had called for simpler procedures for Ukrainian refugees to take up gainful employment in Switzerland. The councillors called for the current work permit requirement to be replaced by a registration requirement.

Refugees with S status should also be required to register with the public employment service. Employed persons should be able to change canton and be obliged to participate in integration measures.
