Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider is currently attending the Cannes Film Festival. She is representing Switzerland at the Marché du Film trade event and is leading a large Swiss delegation.

"As Guest of Honor at the Film Market, Switzerland has the opportunity to showcase its enormous creative power to film lovers and the general public," said Baume-Schneider in a video she shared on X (formerly Twitter). This year's edition of the film festival is "not like any other for Switzerland and local film".

She sees the invitation to the Marché du Film on the one hand as a sign of recognition, and on the other as a reward for the filmmakers who work on "successful" films. The Federal Councillor, to whom the Federal Office of Culture reports, concluded with the statement that the Confederation is convinced of the importance of Swiss film and that Swiss filmmaking is a success.

The Swiss delegation in Cannes includes the Director of the Federal Office of Culture Carine Bachmann, the Director of the promotion agency Swiss Films Nicola Ruffo and SRG Director General Gilles Marchand.

In addition to attending the Marché du Film, their program included the premiere of Francis Ford Coppola's new film "Megalopolis" at the Grand Théâtre Lumière. The 85-year-old American director was there, as were some of the cast, including actors Adam Driver and Dustin Hoffman. The science fiction film is considered one of the most sensational films at the Cannes Festival.

Switzerland is this year's guest country at the Marché du Film, a platform for the international film industry. The event takes place as part of the festival. Around 300 people from all areas of the Swiss film industry have traveled from Switzerland, as the promotion agency Swiss Films wrote in a press release.

The film festival runs until May 25, the Marché du Film until May 22.
