Karin Keller-Sutter, the Swiss Finance Minister, expressed her optimism for the future in her 1 August speech in Rapperswil-Jona SG. She believes that this optimism can be gained from crises, citing the successful handling of the pandemic, the swift provision of protection to thousands of Ukrainians, and the prevention of economic damage in March when the Credit Suisse was on the brink of collapse. Keller-Sutter emphasised the need for courage when taking action, and the importance of working together to find solutions. She also noted that Switzerland has changed for the better since the creation of the constitution 175 years ago, with the introduction of legal equality for all, the granting of voting rights to women, and the establishment of a strong education and healthcare system, as well as a reliable social safety net. It is therefore important to look forward as well as back.nn
