Federal government participates in German project for the Hochrhein route

Switzerland is contributing CHF 50 million to the German section of the Hochrhein route. Transport Minister Albert Rösti and his counterpart from Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Hermann, signed an agreement to this effect on Monday.
This was announced by the Federal Office of Transport. The electrification and expansion of the Hochrhein line north of the Swiss border is intended to provide a direct and fast rail link between Basel, Schaffhausen and St. Gallen.
Switzerland is now contributing CHF 50 million to the project on German soil. The section between Basel and Erzingen in Germany is around 75 kilometers long and will cost a total of around 430 million Swiss francs. The Swiss contribution will be paid out in stages and is dependent on the progress of construction, as the Federal Office went on to say.
