In the 1MDB trial in Bellinzona, the federal prosecutor has demanded a prison sentence of ten years for the head of Petrosaudi and nine years for his right-hand man. She has requested that the defendants be placed in preventive detention due to the risk of absconding.
The prosecutor pointed out the danger that the defendants could evade conviction. During the months leading up to the sentencing, they would have enough time to think about the long prison sentence and leave Switzerland. Both men are dual nationals: the head of Petrosaudi is Swiss and Saudi Arabian, his deputy is Swiss and British.
In addition to detention, the public prosecutor requested the criminal division to take alternative measures to ensure the presence of the persons concerned in Switzerland. She also demanded that the assets seized by Switzerland be confiscated and returned to the Malaysian state fund 1MDB, which had suffered losses.
