Fees for Schengen visas rise

The fees for Schengen visas for short-term entry into Switzerland are rising. A visa for adults now costs 90 instead of 80 euros and one for six to twelve-year-old children 45 instead of the previous 40 euros. Visas for younger children remain free of charge.
The increase is related to an amendment to the Visa Code and will be adopted by Switzerland - it is an associated Schengen state. The Federal Council approved the new fees, which apply throughout the Schengen area, at its meeting on Friday.
This affects visas for short-term stays of up to ninety days within 180 days. This amendment to the Visa Code corresponds to a further development of the Schengen acquis, which Switzerland has adopted. The European Commission reviews the fees every three years and adjusts them if necessary. The aim is to cover the expenses of the consulates.
In Switzerland, the higher fee rates also apply to national visas for long-term stays.
