On Thursday, the Swiss government and the European Commission resumed their regulatory dialog in the financial market sector for the first time in seven years. The ongoing negotiations on a new agreement between Switzerland and the EU prompted the talks.
Topics in the areas of financial market stability, cross-border activities, capital markets, digital finance, cybersecurity, sustainable finance and insurance were discussed in Bern, as announced by the State Secretariat for International Financial Matters (SIF) on Thursday. The two delegations agreed on a joint declaration on the results of the dialog.
In 2017, the dialog was interrupted by the European Union (EU), a SIF spokesperson told the Keystone-SDA news agency on request. At that time, Switzerland and the EU were unsuccessfully negotiating a framework agreement. With the resumption of negotiations, the dialog in the financial market area could also be resumed.
The next meeting is scheduled to take place in Brussels in the first half of 2025, according to the joint declaration.
