Fire in parking lot in Mendrisio TI damages residential building

In Mendrisio TI, a fire broke out early Friday morning shortly before two o'clock in a parking lot in Via Carlo Cattaneo in front of a residential building.
According to the police, the flames apparently started from a parked car and subsequently damaged three other vehicles. The facade of a building was also damaged. Around thirty people were evacuated from the two buildings adjacent to the parking lot. In addition to the Mendrisio municipal police, officers from the cantonal police and the fire department from the Mendrisiotto cantonal rescue center were on site to extinguish the fire. Rescue workers from the Mendrisiotto Rescue Service (SAM) were also present. Two people received medical treatment for mild smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital by ambulance. Two apartments were so badly damaged by the fire that they are now uninhabitable.
