According to the public prosecutor's office, the explosions in Nussbaumen in the canton of Aargau originated from a locked room on the floor of the underground parking garage. There are still no indications of explosives, as the public prosecutor's office in Aargau announced on Monday.

A 43-year-old Italian and a 24-year-old Swiss man were killed in the accident in Nussbaumen on Thursday evening. "The situation is complex. Forensic investigations are in full swing," said Adrian Schuler, spokesman for the Aargau public prosecutor's office on Monday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

It is very likely that pyrotechnics of a size not permitted in Switzerland exploded. There are still no indications of military explosives or anything similar, said Schuler. Accordingly, the proceedings are still being handled by the Aargau public prosecutor's office and not the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland.

However, Schuler confirmed a statement made by the head of the fire department in an interview with the regional broadcaster TeleM1, according to which the explosion must have taken place in a closed room.

Amount of damage still unknown

Aargauische Gebäudeversicherung (AGV) informed us on request that two employees were on site to assess the damage in order to assist the affected building owners and ensure smooth claims settlement. More precise estimates of the amount of damage are not yet available.

A total of around 100 people were evacuated. Some were able to return to their homes, while others stayed with friends and relatives. On Monday, 27 people were still living in accommodation organized by the municipality, as Bettina Lutz-Güttler, mayor of Obersiggenthal, reported on request.

In addition to rooms in hotels and a youth hostel, the rectory of the Catholic church in Nussbaumen, which had been vacant due to an upcoming renovation, will also be used.
