Bon Schuur Ticino" attracted 22,021 moviegoers to cinemas on its opening weekend. This puts the comedy on a par with the most successful Swiss film to date, "Platzspitzbaby".
"Bon Schuur Ticino" by Peter Luisi with comedian Beat Schlatter in the lead role was released in cinemas in German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino last Thursday. The box office figures since then are "on a par with the most successful Swiss cinema release since the pandemic", with "Platzspitzbaby", which was released in January 2020. This was announced by the distributor DCM Film Distibution on Monday.
The comedy "Bon Schuur Ticino" takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the different cultural sensitivities in the Swiss language regions. Luisi and Schlatter have filmed the thought experiment according to which Swiss voters have decided that only French will be spoken in the country.
The comedy relies on an audience that looks at their own country with self-irony and lots of laughs. "Platzspitzbaby", which was released in German-speaking Switzerland in January 2020, is a completely different story: Pierre Monnard's drama tells the story of a girl and her drug-addicted mother in Zurich.
The film sold 104,000 tickets ten days after its theatrical release. It remains to be seen whether "Bon Schuur Ticino" will be able to match this. The film will not be released in French-speaking Switzerland until February 14.
