The first section of a test facility for Hyperloop technology was opened on Friday in Dübendorf ZH. It consists of a vacuum chamber with an airlock and is to be expanded in the coming months to include a 120-metre-long tube and a magnetic levitation train.

This was announced by the Euro-Tube Foundation, which is behind the test facility. The foundation was established in 2019 by ETH graduates.

Hyperloop technology should enable vehicles to travel smoothly and with significantly lower air resistance in tubes in which negative pressure prevails. According to the press release, a Europe-wide Hyperloop route network could replace flights over distances of up to 2500 km in the longer term.
