The danger of flooding in Basel has been averted: Swissalert gave the all-clear for the affected section of the Rhine from the mouth of the Aare to Basel on Thursday night.
According to the federal natural hazard portal, the Arve near Geneva, the Aare from the mouth of the Saane to Lake Biel and from there to the mouth of the Emme, as well as Lake Biel itself, were still at "considerable" risk of flooding.
After three days of continuous rain, the risk of flooding on the northern slopes of the Alps had largely calmed down on Wednesday. Prior to this, the Arve near Geneva had reached the highest discharge ever measured.
