The online supermarket Alfies, which specializes in fast deliveries, is taking over its competitor Stash. The delivery area will remain limited to a large area around the city of Zurich, as Alfies announced on Tuesday.
Supermarket items can still be ordered from the new merged retailer and delivered to your home within an hour. In contrast to Stash, however, Alfies uses electric delivery vans rather than bicycles for deliveries. This means that several orders can be bundled into one tour and a higher turnover and margin can be achieved.
The extent to which the takeover is associated with job losses due to the switch from bicycles to electric vehicles was not clear from the press release.
Alfies was founded by three men in Salzburg in 2015. Before entering the Swiss market in early 2024, the company supplied Vienna and Graz. The branch in Zurich is the first location outside of Austria.
