For Ticino Health Officer, Increase in Premiums is “Shocking”.

The Swiss canton of Ticino has seen the highest increase in health insurance premiums of all cantons, with a 10.5% increase across all age groups. Health Minister and Government President Raffaele De Rosa expressed his disappointment and deep concern at a press conference on Tuesday. He described the 10.5% increase as a "heavy blow" that will put a strain on family budgets in the southern canton. He noted that health insurance premiums had risen by almost 20% in two years, and that a total reform of the system was urgently needed. The main cause of the increase is the aging population in Ticino, which is the oldest in Switzerland. This has led to an increase in health care costs. De Rosa also expects a large number of applications for premium reductions due to the high increase in premiums. Already last year, several thousand applications for a reduction were made, and almost a third of the Ticino population already receives a premium reduction.
