The Swiss State Political Commission of the National Council (SPK-N) has proposed an amendment to the Foreigner and Integration Law (AIG) to better protect foreign victims of domestic violence. The amendment would expand and clarify the hardship clause, allowing people with residence or short-term residence permits, as well as those temporarily admitted, to receive better protection in the event of domestic violence. The amendment also seeks to clarify the concept of domestic violence by providing examples and characteristics of domestic violence in the law. The proposal was generally positively received in the consultation process, although some opponents fear that the intended extensions of residence rights could lead to abuse. They argue that the proposed law does not guarantee the objectivity of domestic violence.
