The former head of Elvetino did not make any statements on Wednesday morning before the Zurich District Court regarding the accusation of fraud. He had already testified enough in the investigation, he explained.
The presiding judge nevertheless asked his many questions over the course of several minutes. "No statement", the man repeated time and time again. From 2011 until his summary dismissal in August 2017, he was head of the SBB's railroad catering company.
The public prosecutor's office accuses the 68-year-old of making generous use of the company's coffers in a whole series of criminal acts. He is also alleged to have employed a colleague as an external consultant at a daily rate of CHF 2,500 - and received 20 percent of the fee, totaling over CHF 107,000, as a kick-back payment.
Two other defendants are on trial. After their questioning, the prosecution and defense will make their pleas. The trial is scheduled to last two days.
