In addition to "Sauvages" by Claude Barras, three other Swiss films have been included in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival. Also included are "Procès du chien" by Laetitia Dosch, "The Shameless" by Konstantin Bojanov and "Las novias del sur" by Elena López Riera.

After "Ma vie de courgette" (My life as a zucchini) in 2016, Valais director Barras will be showing his new film for the first time in public at the Cannes Film Festival. "Sauvages", an ecological fable set in Borneo, will be shown as part of a special screening.

Switzerland is the guest of honor at the Cannes Film Festival. In an interview with the Keystone-SDA news agency, the director welcomes this recognition of Swiss film, "which goes through ups and downs because we are a small country with a fragmented market due to languages".

Defending a dog

In her first feature film, "Le procès du chien" (The Dog Trial), French-Swiss actress and director Laetitia Dosch plays Avril, a lawyer who is confronted with defending a dog. The film was considered in the "Un Certain Regard" (A Certain View) section.

Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov is no stranger to Cannes, where he presented his first feature film "Avé" at the "Semaine de la Critique" (Critics' Week) in 2011.

In his latest feature film "The Shameless", Bojanov takes the audience to India, where he tells a story about prostitution and forbidden love. This film was also included in the "Un Certain Regard" section.

The Spanish-Swiss co-production "Las novias del sur" (The Betrothed of the South) has been selected for the International Critics' Week. Swiss-Spanish director López Riera lets women in their mature years talk about their marriage, their first time and their relationship to sexuality. She asks herself about her own marriage and childlessness.

Godard's last movie

Jean-Luc Godard's last work "Scénarios", which he completed the day before his death in Rolle VD on Lake Geneva, will be shown as part of "Cannes Classics". The French-Swiss director and screenwriter also described his work on the project in a 34-minute film.

The French-Japanese production will be presented in the presence of Jean-Luc Godard's long-time assistant, Swiss producer Fabrice Aragno, who has contributed his expertise to the project.
