Four museums from Switzerland have been nominated for the prestigious European Museum Award 2024 (EMYA2024). A total of 50 museums from 24 countries are in the running.

The Swiss contenders are the Castle Museum in Burgdorf, Bern, the Dürrenmatt Center in the canton of Neuchâtel, the Villa Bernasconi in the canton of Geneva and the Wettingen Monastery in the canton of Aargau. The decision on the European Museum Award (EMYA) and other awards will be made at the European Museum Forum (EMF) Congress, which will take place in Portimão in southern Portugal from May 1 to 4, 2024, as announced by the European Museum Forum (EMF) on its website.

Apart from Switzerland, only the Netherlands can boast four nominations. Poland is the only country with five nominations.

The European Museum Prize is awarded by the EMF, based in Portimão. The prize is awarded annually in various European cities and is intended for newly opened or redesigned museums. The aim of the competition is to create a network of contacts between the museums, to evaluate their attractiveness to the public and to organize events and workshops. Switzerland regularly submits several nominations.

The 2023 winner is the Ethnological Museum in Valencia, Spain. In the previous year, the prize went to the Netherlands, to the Museum of the Mind - Het Dolhuys in Haarlem. The Swiss Museum for the Blind in Zollikofen near Bern was awarded a special commendation.
