The Italian-Friulian director Francesca Scalisi has won the Fipresci Critics' Award at the DOK documentary film festival in Leipzig with her film "Valentina e i MUOSTri", as the production company Dok Mobile announced on Saturday. The work had already won the Special Jury Prize at the Visions du Réel festival in Nyon VD.
The film is set in Sicily, where the almost 30-year-old Valentina, who lives with her family, has to realign herself due to her father's illness. The area of Niscemi, characterized by fires and gigantic military antennas, the MUOS, provides the setting for a tender story of emancipation, the production company announced.
According to Dok Mobile, the film's festival career will continue in November at the Festival dei Popoli in Florence and in Amsterdam. "Valentina e i MUOSTri" is also in the running for the Swiss Film Award. Dok Mobile is based in Givisiez FR.
