The publishing house St-Paul Médias AG will be cutting five jobs over the next few months. The publishing house is part of the Fribourg-based Saint-Paul Group and publishes the titles "La Liberté", "La Gruyère", "La Broye Hebdo" and "Le Messager".
The managing director of St-Paul Médias AG, Serge Gumy, confirmed on Tuesday to the Keystone-SDA news agency information that had been communicated to employees the previous day. The letter read: "The approved budget stipulates that five vacant positions or positions that will become vacant during the year in the various departments of our company will not be replaced."
This affects two editorial positions, among others, where the people concerned will be retiring next year. Specifically, these are the position of the Vaud correspondent in Lausanne and a position in the central editorial office of "La Liberté", which will not be filled.
No general inflation adjustment
In addition, employees' salaries will not be adjusted for inflation next year. The Board of Directors of St-Paul Médias SA made this decision at the suggestion of the management, according to the letter obtained by Keystone-SDA. The option of a salary adjustment of 1.5 percent was examined but rejected due to the "uncertain" economic environment.
At the beginning of January, information events will be held for the editorial offices and the marketing department in order to "present the economic framework in which our company will operate in the coming year" in more detail.
The Saint-Paul Group founded St-Paul Médias AG in the summer to merge its four publications. The company employed a total of 190 people at the time.
