The delegates of the Gastrosuisse hospitality industry association elected Beat Imhof as its new president on Tuesday in Neuchâtel. The managing director of the Casino Theater Winterthur succeeds the Kandersteg hotelier Casimir Platzer.
Platzer vacated the presidency of the largest employers' association in the hospitality industry due to term limits. He was president for ten years. During the coronavirus pandemic, he made a name for himself as a contentious and controversial representative of his industry. He becomes Honorary President.
His successor Imhof was considered the outsider in the election against the previous Vice President Massimo Suter from Ticino. The race was already decided in the first round of voting, as Gastrosuisse announced on Tuesday evening. The 52-year-old Imhof received 134 votes, Suter 83.
Imhof is a trained chef and completed his Master's degree in Lucerne. The father of two has been President of Gastro Winterthur since 2023. Until 2023, he was a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Graubünden and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW. The delegates elected Gilles Meystre from Pully VD as the new Vice President.
