The gastronomy association Gastrosuisse has welcomed the referendum on the BVG reform. The Swiss electorate has thus opposed an arbitrary and unnecessarily complex redistribution.

The reform would have weakened the occupational pension scheme as a whole and introduced a non-systemic redistribution of CHF 11.3 billion, Gastrosuisse wrote in a press release on Sunday. As a result, the occupational pension scheme would have deviated even further from the original savings principle.

The gastronomy association was part of the economic alliance "No to the BVG sham reform". It also included the French-speaking Swiss employers' association Centre Patronal and smaller industry associations, including bakers and confectioners, hairdressers, fitness and health centers and the meat trade association.

"Today we are celebrating the victory of the three different and complementary pillars and emphasizing the savings character of occupational pensions," Christophe Reymond, Director of the Centre Patronal, was quoted as saying in the communiqué.

In view of a new attempt at pension fund reform, the Economic Alliance is bringing a staggered reduction in the conversion rate into play. According to the communiqué, this could help to prevent massive pension cuts. Losses from the reduction would have to be offset in a targeted manner.
