Geneva closed two more bridges to traffic on Wednesday night due to the risk of flooding. According to Alertswiss, this meant that five bridges in the city of Geneva and some of its neighboring municipalities were inaccessible.
On Wednesday morning, Alertswiss also warned of flooding in the Saane in the Laupen-Gümmenen BE region. The alert service had previously warned of flooding in the Reuss near Mellingen AG.
On the Säntis, 113.2 millimetres of rain fell in the 24 hours up to 3.00 a.m., as SRF Meteo reported on Wednesday night. On Tsanfleuron VS, 101.8 millimeters were measured.
Flood warning for French-speaking Switzerland and Valais
On Tuesday evening, Alertswiss had already warned of flooding in the Thur in the canton of St. Gallen, in the Rhine near Basel and in parts of French-speaking Switzerland and Valais due to the storm depression "Jasper". There was also a risk of landslides in some areas.
"Jasper" had already brought a lot of rain to Switzerland by early Tuesday evening. In the Alpine foothills and mountain regions, there was widespread precipitation of between 50 and 70 millimetres. The most rain fell on La Dole in the Vaud Jura until shortly before 5 p.m. with 100 millimetres, as the weather service Meteonews wrote in its blog.
