On Saturday evening, the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) awarded the Reflet d'Or for best feature film to the black comedy "Vampire humaniste cherche suicidaire consentant" by Canadian director Ariane Louis-Seize from Québec. The 29th edition of the film festival comes to an end on Sunday.

In her first feature film, Ariane Louis-Seize tells the story of Sacha, a human vampire who is too compassionate to kill humans. The jury, which was chaired by Lausanne director Stéphanie Chuat, considers the work to be a "true homage to genre films and an ode to high sensitivity (neurodiversité)".

In the international series competition, the Belgian series "The Club" by Leander Verdievel and Zita Theunynck, which tells of the joys and sorrows of couples confronted with artificial insemination in a subtle and cheerful way, was awarded the prize. This Reflet d'Or for the best series is also endowed with 10,000 francs.

The number of visitors to the festival's digital programme testifies to the public's curiosity about this type of creation, as the organizers stated in a press release on Saturday. They estimate that half of the festival visitors experimented with virtual reality for the first time. The marketplace and professional program of the GIFF, the Geneva Digital Market, also recorded an increase in visitor numbers.

The GIFF will end in cinemas on Sunday, but will continue online and offer a touring program in December. The consolidated attendance figures for the 29th edition will be announced at a later date. The 2022 edition attracted over 35,000 festival visitors. The 30th edition will take place from November 1 to 10, 2024.

Founded in 1995, GIFF is the oldest film festival in Geneva and one of the first in the world to include television in its program. It is a meeting point for genres and disciplines, a place for experimentation, encounters and celebration, and offers ten days of films, series, interactive installations and works in virtual reality every year.
