Gerhard Andrey is a man of many talents. He is an IT entrepreneur, politician, cultural promoter - and originally a carpenter and woodworking engineer. The 47-year-old grew up in rural Heitenried in the German-speaking Sense district of Fribourg and now lives in Granges-Paccot, a suburb of the city of Fribourg.
In 2019, he was the first Green from the canton of Fribourg to be elected to the National Council, where he quickly made a name for himself. According to a statement from his party, he is a founding member and co-president of the parliamentary cybersecurity group and a member of the parliamentary group on digital sustainability.
Since 2021, he has also been part of the Federal Chancellery's Digitalization Reflection Group. In the elections on 22 October, Andrey managed to defend the National Council seat he won from the SVP in 2019. In the Council of States elections, he finished just behind Alizée Rey (SP) in fifth place. He did not stand in the second round of voting in the canton of Fribourg on November 12.
In 2007, Andrey co-founded Liip, a web software development company that now employs over 200 people at six locations in Switzerland. Andrey was co-founder and president of "La Gustav", an institution that offers young musicians extracurricular training so that they can create and publish their own songs.
Gerhard Andrey is married and has two children. In addition to German, he also speaks French and English "business fluently", as he says himself, as well as Spanish fluently.
