The political majority in Switzerland is not showing solidarity in the face of the climate crisis. Green Party President Lisa Mazzone voiced this criticism at the delegates' meeting on Saturday. "And the entire right is hiding behind a ridiculous CO2 law."
This is because it relies on "climate dumping abroad", said Mazzone according to the speech text in Basel. Switzerland distinguishes itself by finding loopholes for its international obligations. Instead of investing in the rapid phase-out of fossil fuels in Switzerland, "cheap reduction certificates" are being bought from abroad.
The political majority in Switzerland shows no solidarity, Mazzone concluded. And it is not taking responsibility either. After the storms in Valais and Ticino, there was also criticism of the Avenir Suisse think tank. Mazzone calls the organization a "neoliberal bulldozer". It proposes abandoning certain Alpine valleys because only a few hundred people live there. "The cost-benefit ratio is bad," said Mazzone, "how cynical!"
