The Swiss Greens see the adoption of the negotiating mandate with the EU announced by Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis as an opportunity for Switzerland. However, more is needed, as Switzerland is lagging behind in many areas in which the EU is making progress.
For example, when it comes to climate protection, as Green National Councillor and party vice president Sibel Arslan (BS) was quoted as saying on Friday. "Switzerland should therefore not only participate in the European electricity market, but also in the European Green Deal," said Arslan.
The Greens were generally pleased that the negotiations would now "finally begin". The Federal Council must now conclude them quickly and bring together the pro-European forces in Switzerland. The Federal Council must not allow itself to be blackmailed by the SVP, which will fight any agreement, no matter how good it is.
