On 22 September, voters in Graubünden will decide on the construction of a new cantonal training center for civil protection. The new building, which will cost almost 19 million francs, is undisputed.
The new property on the Meiersboda civil defense site in Churwalden on the city limits of Chur is intended to replace the existing cantonal training building from the 1970s. The new center will once again provide a modern infrastructure for basic and cadre training in civil defence throughout the canton.
The need for the new building was undisputed in the Graubünden parliament in April. The existing building, which is around 50 years old, no longer meets today's requirements.
The concrete building project was praised by the cantonal parliament in April. It was selected from six project proposals in a project competition and comes from architectural firms in Chur and Zurich. According to the Graubünden government, the Minergie-P-Eco house impresses with its holistic and future-oriented approach to sustainable construction.
If voters approve the new building, the excavators will start work in spring 2025. The new training building should be operational by the end of 2027 and the old one demolished.
