The former head of cardiac surgery at Zurich University Hospital has denied the accusation of falsifying documents. He is alleged to have made untrue statements in a report on an operation during which the patient died.

The Zurich public prosecutor's office accuses the heart surgeon of having indicated too short an operation time on the report. He is also alleged to have concealed the name of another surgeon.

"Four of my predecessor's secretaries edited the report. They should have pointed out the errors to me," said the 67-year-old at the Zurich District Court on Friday. The secretaries had corrected 20 errors, but not this one. He sees himself as the victim of an intrigue.

The 67-year-old was originally even accused of involuntary manslaughter following an anonymous complaint. However, this investigation was dropped by the public prosecutor's office. The surgeon had been brought in on an interim basis after his predecessor went on leave.
