Hero, a company with a long tradition in the canton of Aargau, will definitely close its jam factory in Lenzburg. Hero had already announced the plans in September, but subsequently there was still a consultation process with the employees.

The plant in Lenzburg is to be closed by the end of 2024. The proposals submitted by employees as part of the consultation process had not yielded any viable alternatives, according to a statement on Monday.

According to Hero, 48 employees are now affected by the closure, compared to 55 in mid-September. Those affected will be supported by a "generous" social plan, it says.

Hero regrets the closure, but feels compelled to do so in order to secure the company's "long-term competitiveness". The plant, which opened in 2011, had never achieved sufficient capacity utilization despite numerous efforts. The situation has been aggravated recently by the fact that consumption of jam in Switzerland continues to decline.

Hero further emphasizes that even after the closure in Lenzburg, more than half of all products sold in Switzerland will be manufactured in the customs territory of Switzerland/Liechtenstein. In addition, the Group's headquarters with a total of 170 employees will remain at the Lenzburg site.
