High avalanche danger in parts of Graubünden

There is a high risk of avalanches in some regions of the canton of Graubünden. According to information from the avalanche warning service, the second-highest danger level applies on Friday in Bergell, Puschlav, Avers, Moesano, Corvatsch and Bernina. The weather will also be unstable in the coming days.

The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF announced on Thursday that there is a considerable avalanche danger (level 3) in the other regions of the canton of Graubünden.

In addition, the weather will be unstable in the coming days, as Meteonews noted in a press release. The most sunshine is expected on Friday and Saturday. It will also be occasionally wet.

Stormy Thursday

On Thursday, a gale-force south-westerly wind was blowing, particularly in the Jura and on the mountains, and a gale-force Föhn wind was blowing in the northern Alpine valleys. There were gale-force gusts of 123 kilometers per hour (kmh) on the Chasseral and even 121 kilometers in Rünenberg.

In the Alps, the strongest gust of 109 km/h was recorded on Piz Martegnas and in the Alpine valleys at 101 kilometers per hour in Altdorf UR.
