Holcim is expanding in Latin America. The Swiss building materials group has taken over two local cement companies in Peru. A Holcim spokesperson confirmed the two acquisitions worth 100 million dollars on Friday when asked by the news agency AWP.
Holcim has acquired all shares in the companies Comacsa (Compañía Minera Agregados Calcareos S.A.) and Mixercon, according to a communiqué published by Holcim Argentina the previous day. Both companies, with over 650 employees, will continue to operate independently and retain their brands.
Peru is an attractive growth market, driven by sustained economic growth and increasing demand for higher quality standards in new buildings and renovations, said Holcim Peru CEO Norberto Ledea. Another driver is demand in the infrastructure, mining and industrial sectors.
The integration of Comacsa and Mixercon could open up export markets, explained Holcim Latin America CEO Oliver Osswald. He told the newspaper "Gestion" that the aim was to use the sites in Peru to supply cement to buyers along the southern Pacific coast.
