Martin von Moos is to become the new Hotelleriesuisse President. Von Moos was elected by the delegates' meeting on Tuesday and will step into the shoes of Andreas Züllig, who is stepping down after nine years in office, at the end of the year.

The 60-year-old from Lucerne is Managing Director of the 4-star hotels Sedartis in Thalwil and Belvoir in Rüschlikon in the canton of Zurich. From 2015 to 2023, von Moos was also Chairman of the Zurich Hotel Association. He also holds various directorships, including the vice chairmanship of Swiss Quality Hotels International, and is a board member of Zürich Tourism, according to a statement.

Von Moos prevailed over various candidates named in advance. Among others, Claude Meier, who is stepping down as Association Director at the end of the year, had also been considered as Züllig's successor. In June, when he announced his resignation as Director at the end of the year, he announced his intention to enter the race for the presidency.

New mission statement to combat skills shortage

In addition to von Moos, the industry association also elected Carole Hauser and Pierre Isenschmied as new members of the association management, while Urs Bircher and Philippe Zurkirchen were confirmed in office. Hauser is reportedly a member of the management of her own family business, Hotel Belvedere in Grindelwald in the canton of Bern. Isenschmied is Director of the Hotel Mercure in Biel, which belongs to the Accor hospitality group.

The delegates also approved the 2024 budget and the new "Labor market, social partnership and education" mission statement. This is intended to counteract the shortage of skilled workers, which is described in the press release as "one of the biggest challenges" facing the industry today. The association thus wants to ensure that the accommodation industry remains successful and can continue to employ enough people with a suitable profile in the future.
