The Baden AG public prosecutor's office has brought murder charges against a 48-year-old man. He is alleged to have brutally strangled his 41-year-old wife in Bergdietikon AG in September 2022. According to the public prosecutor's office, the accused Swiss man has confessed.

The man is to be sentenced to 18 years' imprisonment for murder, as announced by the Aargau public prosecutor's office on Tuesday. The husband was arrested one day after the crime under urgent suspicion. He admitted to being responsible for his wife's death.

According to the public prosecutor's office, it assumes that the killing of the victim must have been preceded by an argument. Based on the available evidence, they consider the accused's actions in the crime to be particularly unscrupulous, agonizing for the victim and the background in question to be selfish.

Dead in the bathroom

According to the indictment, the accused called the emergency services on September 25, 2022 and informed the cantonal police that his wife had locked herself in the bathroom of their detached house in Bergdietikon on the border with the canton of Zurich. She was not responding to calls. However, the emergency services were able to break down the door to the bathroom by kicking it open.

For the emergency services, the situation initially pointed to a suicide. However, during the investigations that were launched, uncertainties arose. The evidence and, above all, the investigation by the forensic institute had indicated an external cause.

Wife was strangled

Massive dust hemorrhages were found in the area of the woman's head. These must have been caused by violence to the neck area. The 41-year-old woman had been strangled.

According to consistent media reports, the victim is a business expert with Kosovar-Albanian roots. The accused husband is a North Macedonian of Albanian origin who was naturalized more than 20 years ago.
