A lot of rain fell in Switzerland on Saturday and during the night into Sunday. So far, the extreme south has been the worst affected. In Mendrisiotto TI, 110 liters of rain per square metre were measured in the past 24 hours.
48 liters of rain fell in just two hours, the Federal Office of Climatology and Meteorology (MeteoSwiss) announced on the X platform on Sunday. This corresponds to the expected amount of rain, MeteoSwiss told the Keystone-SDA news agency.
Meteorologists expect the situation to ease this evening. However, heavy thunderstorms are still possible in Ticino during the night, according to MeteoSwiss. Monday should then be dry throughout Switzerland.
The rain warnings of danger level 3, considerable danger, for parts of Ticino and the canton of Graubünden are valid until 8 pm. Until then, the federal government recommends avoiding the banks of rivers and lakes as well as steep slopes and driving around flooded sections of road.
