The Green Party of Uri has submitted a people's initiative called "Isleten for All" to prevent plans by investor Samih Sawiris to build a marina and a hotel on the Isleten peninsula on Lake Lucerne. The initiative was signed by 1953 people and requires at least 600 valid signatures for it to be successful. Sawiris had previously proposed a marina with up to 50 boats and a hotel with 50 rooms and 100 hotel-managed apartments. Two petitions were unable to stop the Isleten project, prompting the Greens to launch the people's initiative. The initiative would make the peninsula mostly accessible to the public and a natural recreation area, prohibiting new marinas, hotels or apartment buildings, but allowing camping. Isleten is located on a delta of the Isitaler Bach between Seedorf and Bauen on the left bank of Lake Lucerne and was once an important industrial site. For over a hundred years, explosives were produced there for the construction of the Gotthardbahn summit tunnel.
