The newly elected SP Federal Councillor Beat Jans is open to all departments. The Federal Council will decide in the next few days and he will take what he is given, said Jans.
Beat Jans told the media in Bern on Wednesday that he had not yet held any talks with the members of the Federal Council on the subject of departmental elections. This will happen in the next few days.
On the EU dossier, Jans said he was confident that the negotiations were moving forward. However, the issue of wage protection must be clarified in order for the package to gain majority support. He wanted to do what he could to bring the social partners to a solution.
Jans paid "the greatest respect" to his predecessor Berset and what he had achieved during the pandemic. However, he wanted to remain true to himself and bring his own values, which are very close to those of Berset, to the Federal Council. In all his business, he wants to put himself in the shoes of the child in humble circumstances that he once was.
The votes for Daniel Jositsch did not surprise him, said Jans. He had realized in discussions with Jositsch before the nomination that Jositsch would not become a Federal Councillor. He is an excellent member of the Council of States and plays an important role for the country. "We will remain friends."
