Bankers looking for a new job are finding it increasingly difficult. The number of vacancies at Swiss banks has been declining for months. According to a recent analysis by the job portal Indeed, there were just 600 vacancies at the ten largest banks in Switzerland in October.

Compared to September, the number of vacancies has therefore fallen by 6.5 percent, not counting apprenticeships and internships. The decline since the summer has thus continued - in July, 811 job advertisements could still be found on the websites of the ten most important financial institutions.

Within a quarter, the number of jobs on offer has therefore fallen by around 25 percent, as the analysis that Indeed regularly carries out for the news agency AWP shows. Only jobs with a place of work in Switzerland are included in the analysis.

In October, the number of vacancies fell particularly sharply at Migros Bank and Postfinance. However, there were a few more jobs than in September on the job pages of Julius Baer and Lombard Odier.

A comparison with the previous year shows that the number of vacancies in the banking sector has fallen sharply overall. In October 2023, a total of over 900 jobs were still advertised at the ten largest banks, more than 50 percent more than at present. The integration of Credit Suisse into UBS is particularly significant here, as there were still numerous vacancies at the former big bank last fall. Although the number of jobs advertised at UBS is higher than a year ago, there are by no means as many additional jobs listed on the jobs page as CS was once looking for.
