Jacques Gerber (FDP), Jura's Director of Health and Economic Affairs, is stepping down after nine years in the cantonal government. Following the meeting on Wednesday, Parliament President Pauline Godat read out the cantonal councillor's letter of resignation. Gerber will head the Ukraine program at the federal government in future.
"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of my decision to step down from my position on December 31, 2024," he wrote in his letter. He added that a new opportunity had presented itself to him. "The years I have spent in the service of the Jura have been very rewarding for me," his letter of resignation continues.
The 51-year-old Gerber will take over the preparation and management of the Ukraine country program from the beginning of 2025, as the Federal Council announced on Wednesday.
Jacques Gerber had already announced last year that he would not be standing for a third term in the cantonal elections in fall 2025. The FDP member of the cantonal government failed in the Council of States elections last year.
Gerber was born in Pruntrut in 1973. He was first a municipal councillor in Pruntrut, then a cantonal parliamentarian and finally a member of the cantonal government.
