Jacques Gerber, Jura's Minister of Health and Economic Affairs, is to become the Federal Council's "Mister Ukraine". The 51-year-old FDP politician will take over the preparation and management of the "Ukraine country program" from the beginning of 2025.
This was announced by the state government on Wednesday. It had previously appointed Gerber as the Federal Council's delegate for Ukraine. The long-standing member of the cantonal government of Jura and Vice-President of the Conference of Cantonal Governments will be responsible for coordinating aid to Ukraine within the Federal Administration from January 1, 2025, according to the statement.
The "Ukraine Country Program" is intended to enable the implementation of Ukraine aid from a single source. It should ensure targeted and effective support and be based on the seven Lugano Principles.
In his new role, Gerber will report to Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and Economics Minister Guy Parmelin. Organizationally, the post is attached to the FDFA General Secretariat. Gerber will be awarded the title of ambassador.
