The Jura government, together with SBB and Jura Railways, wants to boost demand for public rail transport. The three partners signed a strategy paper on Thursday. This includes measures to increase the proportion of journeys made by public transport from 20 to 25 percent from 2030.

In order to achieve this goal, the possibilities of switching from one mode of transport to another must be improved. By signing the paper entitled "Perspective générale Jura", the government and the two railroad companies aim to address the needs of the population in terms of mobility and urbanization.

The strategy paper should make it possible to define measures to improve the quality and range of public transport services, SBB CEO Vincent Ducrot told the media. "We are trying to improve the service everywhere," said Ducrot and assured that there should be no peripheral regions in this respect.

The three partners expressed their intention to coordinate the development of rail infrastructure with spatial planning. They defined a total of 48 measures in three fields of action - passenger transport, freight transport and the development of multimodal interfaces.

Expansion to France planned

The planned measures include improving cross-border rail services. To this end, talks with France on the development of a train connection between the Jura and Belfort are to be continued.

The government and rail providers also mentioned the project for a fast connection between La Chaux-de-Fonds and Delsberg with "ArcExpress" as a further measure. They also mentioned the realization of the "Réseau Express Régional" on the route between Delsberg, the French town of Delle and Bonfol.

With regard to multimodal interfaces, they mentioned improvements in the connection of cycle paths with train stations and the creation of bicycle parking facilities.

To mark the signing of the "Perspective générale Jura", Environment Director David Eray and Vincent Ducrot christened a Giruno train with the coat of arms of the Canton of Jura.
