The willingness to buy electric cars in Switzerland has decreased compared to previous years. According to TCS, a lack of charging infrastructure is an obstacle to the purchase decision for 65% of respondents. Rising electricity prices had no influence.

Other reasons against buying an electric car for 41 percent of respondents were the price and for 34 percent the range, according to the fifth annual, representative TCS study on electric mobility 2023, which was published on Wednesday.

Despite a slight decline in the willingness to buy, more than half (55%) of the Swiss are in favor of the authorities promoting charging stations with subsidies. As in the previous year, 56% are also still in favor of a tax deduction (-5).

More than half (53 percent) of electric car owners surveyed had their own parking space or garage with a power connection, the report continued. The main reason for buying an electric car was still the desire for sustainability. However, at 47%, this figure fell by six percentage points among those surveyed.

The ongoing electricity shortage and the associated rise in electricity prices had hardly any influence on the willingness to buy an electric car, according to the survey. Only eleven percent of respondents would postpone a purchase for this reason. In the previous year, it was still a third.

As part of the TCS Barometer on Electric Mobility 2023, the research institute gfs.bern surveyed 1004 people aged 18 and over from October 10 to 19.
