Lack of skilled workers prevents German lessons for migrants

According to the Swiss Association for Continuing Education (SVEB), the shortage of skilled workers in Switzerland is also affecting language courses for migrants. According to the association, there is a shortage of over 100 course instructors across Switzerland. Many migrants are therefore unable to attend German courses.
The SVEB wants to change this and has therefore launched the website "deutschunterrichten.ch". According to a statement issued by the association on Monday, it is intended to appeal to potential course instructors and provide information to interested parties. Vacancies are also advertised on the portal.
The project is supported by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) and several cantons, according to the press release.
According to the SVEB, there are several reasons for the shortage of specialists: on the one hand, the demand for German language course instructors has increased. This is particularly due to the S program, which provides support measures for people with S protection status.
On the other hand, many older course instructors left the profession during the coronavirus pandemic and did not return. The sponsors of the new website also include universities and language course providers.
