On Monday, the Thurgau State Chancellery allocated the last of the 130 seats in the Grand Council by lot. This decided the election in favor of Sandrine Nikolic-Fuss (SP). In Sunday's elections, she received exactly the same number of votes as her party colleague Monika Böhi.

In the event of a tie between two candidates for a single vacant seat, the cantonal law on voting and election rights stipulates that those affected can submit a declaration of renunciation or that a decision is made by drawing lots, as the Thurgau State Chancellery wrote in a press release on Monday.

Sandrine Nikolic-Fuss from Bettwiesen TG has now won the seat in the cantonal parliament by drawing lots. Nikolic-Fuss is President of the Kapers union for Swiss cabin crew.

Two candidates in a tie

The special situation arose in the cantonal elections on Sunday in the Münchwilen district. The SP won two seats there. Nikolic-Fuss and Böhi had exactly the same number of votes for the second seat. The state chancellery therefore drew lots on Monday.

The SP emerged victorious from the Thurgau cantonal elections together with the centrists. The SVP, GLP, Greens and FDP lost seats.
