The tightening of admission requirements for civilian service divides the political camp along the traditional left-right divide. The red-green camp criticizes the attack on civilian service. Bourgeois parties want to use the reform to secure the army.

The Federal Council wants to reduce admissions to civilian service. It is proposing six measures in its consultation, which ends on Saturday.

The center and FDP support the proposed change with the aim of ensuring that the army is well staffed. For both parties, the reform ensures that alternative civilian service remains a strictly regulated alternative.

The SP and the Greens reject the revision. The SP sees this as an "unnecessary and unjustified attack on civilian service". The proof solution is constitutional and offers no freedom of choice. For the Greens, the civilian service already functions optimally. It is efficiently organized and useful for society.

The Swiss Civilian Service Association (Civiva) also rejects the revision as a whole.
