US pop singer Lionel Richie ("All Night Long", "Hello") prefers to celebrate Christmas at home with his family. "For me, it's all about family, because that's the anchor point," Richie (75) told the German Press Agency in London.

At Christmas, he doesn't want to travel, but to pause and rest. "My little idea is: when the world goes on vacation, I stay at home. And when everyone is back from vacation, then I'll go on vacation. Then I'll go out again."

There are simply too many people out and about for him at Christmas time. "So I enjoy the time at home with my family - and I relax," said Richie, describing his idea of the perfect Christmas. For him, it's a time to look back and be thankful.

"It's about becoming aware of where you come from," says the musician. "Nothing in life can be taken for granted. So I'm just grateful for my family and that I have the health to move on to the next stage of my life. For me, this time is above all a moment of reflection."

Switzerland concerts in summer 2025

A few days after Christmas, Lionel Richie is already giving concerts again. The musician will be back in Europe next summer, playing five concerts in Germany and one in Switzerland at the Hallenstadion Zurich as part of his "Say Hello To The Hits" tour. He will also be performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in July.

"I'm at home on stage," said the soul icon on the tour announcement. "I'm still here, and the music is still there too. And for me, the greatest thing is when the fans come. That's my 'hallelujah'."
