Man drowns in Lake Geneva near Saint-Gingolph VS

A 24-year-old Guinean drowned in Lake Geneva off the shore of Saint-Gingolph VS on Monday. The young man suddenly went under while swimming.
Several people who had witnessed the incident jumped into the water and tried in vain to help the victim, as reported by the Valais cantonal police on Tuesday. The divers from the Cantonal Valais Rescue Organization (KWRO) were alerted and managed to pull the man out of the water. Despite resuscitation measures, he died on the spot.
The Valais public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
