The department store chain Manor is planning to close two locations in Ticino by spring 2025. A social plan is planned for the more than 100 employees.
There are currently 55 employees at the affected site in Balerna (Mendrisio) and 49 employees at the site in Sant'Antonino (Bellinzona), most of them part-time, as a spokeswoman announced on Thursday at the request of the news agency AWP. The daily newspaper "Corriere del Ticino" had previously reported on this.
Manor is endeavoring to retain employees at other locations in the region if possible. A consultation phase is currently taking place. There will be a social plan.
Meanwhile, the closure does not mean turning its back on the region: according to the spokesperson, the department store chain intends to strengthen its locations in Ascona, Bellinzona, Biasca, Locarno, Lugano and Vezia and expand its range of products and services. A new Manor outlet will also open in Grancia (Lugano) on March 1, 2024.
The Manor Group owns 59 department stores, 27 food supermarkets and 23 restaurants. The company is represented in all parts of the country and, according to its own information, employs around 7500 people.
